Jon Brower Minnoch was a severely obese American man who, at his peak weight, was the heaviest human being in history, weighing an estimated 1,400 lb (635 kg). Transportation for Minnoch was difficult. It took over a dozen rescue personnel and firemen, a specially modified stretcher, and a ferry boat to transport him to University of Washington Medical Center. Minnoch weighed 476 lb (216 kg) after he was discharged from the hospital following 16 months of a strict diet of 1,200 kcal per day, having lost around 924 lb (419 kg), (which is the largest human weight loss ever documented). Unfortunately, Minnoch was readmitted to the hospital a year later in (1981) after his weight increased to 952 lb (432 kg). The decision was to discontinue treatment due to his underlying condition of edema being incurable. He died almost two years later in September 1983 at the age of 41.
